Immigration StoryThursday June 14, 2007, Pensacola Manuel Mijares who was a former symphony conductor from Venezuela who was a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), came into our offices seeking possible political asylum. We successfully extended his B2 visa which gives him time to seek asylum or possible job opportunities. He gave a free concert at St. Joseph’s Church on February 24, 2007 which was attended by 80 people. He raised $600.00 and hopes to have another concert to help Catholic Charities, Immigration and Refugee Services. We are assisting him with follow-up and he now has his asylum hearing in Jacksonville on May 23, 2007. |
