SHELTER: CREATING A FOUNDATION
Seeking shelter and assistance with employment, Joanna, a single mom with three daughters came to Catholic Charities. With a lack of any support system in the area, Joanna and her family moved into St. Barnabas House Transitional Shelter, which gave her the opportunity to live in a safe environment while looking for employment, day care, and stability.
During her 5½ month stay at the Barnabas House, Joanna participated in the agency’s 6-week parenting course, established daycare for her children, was mentored in monthly budgeting and became gainfully employed. Joanna was able to save over a thousand dollars before she left the shelter. The help that she received during these months gave light to confidence and hope for a more independent and brighter future.
